A Taste For Wine

Wine can be an intimidating venture. Everyone has the image of the
condescending wine snob, looking down on you with every insufferable
gaffe you unwittingly make. This, however, is not how wine should be
experienced. For a refreshing change, look no further than "A Taste For
Wine."
Situated on Central Avenue, this family-owned wine bar is a gem waiting
to be discovered. There is an ever changing menu of wines on tap, plus
a retail section that seems to have anything you could want, from
Albarino to Zinfandel. There is even an "Ultra Value" section if you
are trying not to break the bank. Not in the mood for wine? Check out
their beer list that would please any enthusiast. Hang out at the bar,
relax on the couches, or kick back on the balcony straight out of
Bourbon Street.

Planning a surprise home-cooked meal for your next hot date, and not
sure about the wine and food pairing? Look no further than Erin and
Rochelle, the co-owners. They are eager to answer any wine related
question you could ever imagine, and do so in a knowledgeable yet not
condescending way. Their laid-back attitudes complement the relaxing
environment, although too much fun could lead to an embarrassing event.
Their event calendar fills many nights of the month, from formal
tastings to casual flights. The "Champagne and Port" tasting each
winter draws a standing room only crowd. Be sure to check out my
personal favorite - "Patron's Choice." Select your favorite varietal
from the retail section, and then share it with everyone. This is a
fabulous way to experiment with several types of wines, without
committing to an entire bottle.

"A Taste For Wine" is St. Pete's best undiscovered haunt that I know
you will love. Learn a little, drink a little, and explore all the
treasures of the vine. All it takes is one visit to be hooked, and
before you know it, you too could be the next great wine lover. Salut!
I'll see you there.
